COLOR and VALUE STRATEGIES-
with Susan Webb Tregay NWS
Author of the book and DVD
"MASTER DISASTER"
from North Light Book Club has made her a very popular workshop artist throughout the country.

January 17 and 24, 10-4

Color strategies can help develop content in your art. Though slides and discussions we will analyze eight color strategies as a direct
and simple way to evoke content and moods. Students will start a "flip book" of eight simple color sketches or sample paintings
found in art magazines.

Value strategies are the design backbone of a strong painting. Because of their success, some have been used and reused
throughout art history .While there seem to be a limited number of color strategies, wonderful, new value/design strategies keep
catching to my attention. This course will supply artists with two dozen strategies. We will add these to your "flip book" and begin
finding examples of each strategy. Students have called these flip
books their art bibles.

We will also be making Stone Soup for lunch! Everyone is asked to bring a serving of something (a
can of something, a potato or two cut up or such) to throw in our soup pot. Let's do lunch!

OUR OCTOBER SURPRISE!

Patricia Wellborn
Experimental Watercolor & Collage

 Wednesday Evenings  6:00-9:00 pm
     Thursday Afternoons 1:00- 4:00 pm
Classes will meet weekly for 5 weeks in October

Afternoon classes begin Thurs Oct. 2 from 1-4 pm
Evening classes beginning Wed Oct.1 from 6-9 pm

$100 per student

This course will emphasize color and design, with subject matter used
to create exciting paintings. We will learn how to look for shapes, not
things, and learn how to simplify complex shapes. Collage will be
introduced in some of our classes. We will print into wet paint with
textured surfaces and use negative painting to bring out the shapes of
trees, rocks and foliage. We will study different color palettes and
design formats.

Students are encouraged to practice at home between sessions, and
receive a critique on their homework the following week.

The goal of this course is to get students on the road toward
loosening up their paintings, and using the photograph to create
something new, instead of just trying to replicate a photograph.

NOVEMBER 2-DAY MIXED-MEDIA
COLLAGE WORKSHOP- con't *

These classes attempt to encourage
the student to open themselves to
new methods to express their own
artistic vision.  Paula teaches with an
informal 'hands on approach' which
encourages the student to grasp the
ideas and not just the method being
taught.  Her classes last for two days
and are appropriate for both new
and experienced artist looking for
new ideas and material with which to
express themselves.

Paula uses heavy weight illustration
board or watercolor board as a base
and builds texture using tissues,
decorative papers as well as copies
of old photos, transfers of sayings,
rubber stamps, acrylic paint and
many other materials that she brings
to the class.
