COLOR and VALUE STRATEGIES-
with Susan Webb Tregay NWS
Author of the book and DVD
"MASTER DISASTER"
from North Light Book Club has made her a very popular workshop artist throughout the country.

January 17 and 24, 10-4

Color strategies can help develop content in your art. Though slides and discussions we will analyze eight color strategies as a direct
and simple way to evoke content and moods. Students will start a "flip book" of eight simple color sketches or sample paintings
found in art magazines.

Value strategies are the design backbone of a strong painting. Because of their success, some have been used and reused
throughout art history .While there seem to be a limited number of color strategies, wonderful, new value/design strategies keep
catching to my attention. This course will supply artists with two dozen strategies. We will add these to your "flip book" and begin
finding examples of each strategy. Students have called these flip
books their art bibles.

We will also be making Stone Soup for lunch! Everyone is asked to bring a serving of something (a
can of something, a potato or two cut up or such) to throw in our soup pot. Let's do lunch!

Oil Painting in The Style of The Old Masters with Sharon Carlyle
Monday or Tuesday Evenings (Intermediate)     Thursday is Introductory Class
6:00-9:00 pm     Six week class $180

Sharon’s style is open and enthusiastic as she instructs an academic yet simplified Method of achieving realism in The Old Masters
Style of Oil Painting.  Students will learn the proper way to “construct” an oil painting
with a concentration on the art of good craftsmanship.

By separating the various stages of a painting it allows each technique to be concentrated on individually.  As each layer of the
painting is mastered, drawing, under painting and modeling, and finally color-   the student will be able to achieve the depth,
transparency, and luminosity in their paintings that is so apparent in the Old Master’s Style.

Sharon Carlyle began her art career 26 years ago, as her husband’s job necessitated frequent moves around the country that allowed
her to study with many accomplished artists.  Her proficiency in both oils and watercolors allowed her to successfully teach both
mediums.  While living in Europe for 3 1/2 years she gained
significant exposure to paintings in the style of the Old Masters. Her emphasis is now entirely on this style of painting.

Her students will find her extensive research and experimentation into
these methods and techniques exciting as they learn to paint like the Old Masters.
