| The Conn-Artist Studios & Art Gallery announces a call to artists for the 1st Annual Please Match My Sofa Art Show at the gallery's location in Hendersonville, NC, USA ELIGIBILITY: Artists and artisans in Western North Carolina and the South Carolina upstate along the NC border. Also, open to artists in other states who are, "friends" of the studio owner, Constance Vlahoulis on the Internet social networking website "facebook." THEME: All entries must be inspired by the, "Please Match My Sofa" theme although a very wide interpretation of that theme is expected and encouraged. PLEASE UNDERSTAND that we do not expect you to use a sofa in your work nor do we not expect it! All is fair sofa or no sofa! It is about the art! Our philosophy is: PEOPLE SHOULD BUY ART BECAUSE THEY LOVE IT! So artists-- please just GO FOR IT, have fun, and bring us your best work and do NOT WORRY about matching anything. Eligible entries include all mediums, excluding digital, film, video and installations. All work must be the original work of the applicant, suitable for gallery installation, and available for sale. The CAS reserves the right to not accept artwork they deem in-appropriate for their audience. Work will be judged on it's creativity, sense of humor, design, and for it's ability to be a functional artwork or just look great in someone's home somewhere! SIZE: All 2D works should be framed or gallery wrapped canvas with no visible staples on sides plus be completely prepared for hanging. The maximum size is 30 inches in height or width and not to exceed 20 pounds including frame. Exceptions to size are works that dimensions do not exceed same square inches of 30 "x 30" max size.or as close as possible to that. More Exceptions: diptychs and triptychs are acceptable. Exceptions to size are 3D work- however work must sit securely on a table, floor, or sofa. Size limits will be determined case by case by gallery owner and upon limited space availability. ENTRY DEADLINE ON OR BEFORE May 21st- extended to May 28th if we have room: Submissions, accompanied by completed entry documentation (to follow) and fee must be received my email, mail, or hand delivered on or before 3pm Friday May 28th 2010. More information regarding hours will be made available on CAS website. PLEASE CALL for an appt if needed. NO PROBLEM! Original time was May 21st BUT YOU KNOW HOW ARTISTS ARE!!! SPACE could be an issue so PLEASE do get your work to the studio ASAP! FEES: $20 for entry made payable to The Conn-Artist Studios, $10 for an additional entry. Nonrefundable. NOTIFICATION: The names of the selected artists and their pieces will be posted on the CAS website within one week of deadline. Phone calls will be made to each artist regarding status of work. Every effort will be made to accept as many works as possible but the decision to accept will be that of the judges. Artists will be instructed to pick up any work(s) not accepted. Judge: Anna Parker-Barnett, Fine Art Consultant and owner of Gallery Minerva. ACCEPTANCE: Artists whose works are accepted via email will need to have their work delivered to the gallery ASAP as SPACE is now an issue. In order to insure the quality of the exhibition, accepted works may be withheld from the exhibition at the juror's discretion. The juror's decision is final. Accepted works must remain on exhibit for the duration of the exhibit unless other agreement is made between the artist and gallery. In addition to the exhibit some accepted works will display on CAS website for one year and may be also be used by CAS for promotion of 2010 show. EXHIBIT DATES: June 10th-August 6th, 2010 SALES: A 35% commission will be retained by The Conn-Artist Studios on all sales, Works will be sold at the price indicated on the entry form. Artists will receive payment within 30 days of the sale and cleared funds from sale.
