Class Information: (for when we continue)

Our classes or Open Studio are designed for learning, fun + enjoying long term friendships!

Meantime we are happy to SHARE our Recommended Materials List:

Use the materials that work best for you. Creativity does not come from the art store or from imitating a teacher. We are much more interested in you and your ideas than your ability to copy. We are suggesting what has worked the best over the years. The Conn-Artist Studio has been the art home of dozens of painters from 2006-2015 in North Carolina & this is exactly what is planned for our local community. Constance’s studio mission statement back in 2006 remains the same and this is...“to become a better artist & help others do the same.”

Brushes:

Bristle leaves brush marks. Sable does not. Both can be used. “Flats” give you more control than “rounds.” If you already have brushes, just bring them and we can talk about what may be good additions. If you need to purchase: pick ups variety of 1/2, 1, + 1 1/2” inch sizes.

Painting Surface + Misc:

Use 11x14” Canvas boards (handy package of 10 or so, can can easily be framed). PALETTE or Palette Paper Pad; (may substitute smooth paper plates); Pencil, paper for notes. Baby wipes, Small garbage bag. Pallet knife for color mixing. Color Wheel. Paper towels or rags. (We will provide jars of water for your brushes. Plus TABLE EASELS are provided.

Paint:

Acrylic paints are the most versatile of all pigments. There is truly nothing you can do to ruin the paint. Consider to use professional grade paints like Golden paints. *avoid off brands described as Craft, Beginner or Student.

*Trust us ~ Student grade paints are harder to use with usually less than satisfying results. Sales often at: DickBlick.com + CheapJoes.com Locally, Michaels usually carries our recommended brands. If you already have paints - look over the tubes to see if you have a “cool” and a “warm” of basic colors.

Colors we like listed below .

OIL Materials list is same as above. Great OIL Paints: Williamsburg, Windsor Newton, Gamblin, Old Holland, Rembrandt, + M. Graham. PLUS: Odorless Turpenoid in a small sealed jar to clean brushes + use as a medium.

Acrylic additions:   +Soft Gel Matt Acrylic Medium-Soft Gels when added to Golden Paints can be added 8 to 1 with NO LOSS of pigment when using the heavy body.

Works WAY better than adding water. Soft Gel Gloss is ideal for glazing and other techniques

like collage.
